The LOINC-SNOMED Mappings report displays the test code system and test code system and test code, description, result code system and result code, disease name, and LOINC test code and SNOMED result code mappings. Authorized users can edit or delete the mapping values.
To configure LOINC-SNOMED mappings, select ELR - CDC Reporting > LOINC-SNOMED Mappings from the menu. The LOINC/SNOMED Mappings page opens. Select a mapping name from the Select a Mapping to Edit drop-down list. The information for the mapping displays on the page. The list can be sorted by clicking on the column header. Under the list of current mappings, the number of mappings displayed on the page is listed (for example, Showing 1 to 2 of 2 entries) and on the right side of that line are previous and forward arrows; click the arrows as needed to display additional mappings.
To add a new mapping table, click the New Mapping Table button on the LOINC/SNOMED Mappings page. See the Add a New Mapping Table section below for more information.
To add a new entry, click the New Entry or Import button, depending on your method of adding the information. See the Add/Import New Entry section below for more information.
To export the list of current mappings, click the Export button at the top of the page.
The columns and options on the LOINC/SNOMED Mappings page are as follows:
Column/Option | Description |
Show ___ entries | Select from the drop-down list the number of entries to display on the page: All, 10, 20, 50 or 100. |
Search | Enter a few characters of the test code, test description, result code system, result description, disease name, LOINC test code, or SNOMED result code in the Search field. |
Test Code System | The name of the lab test coding system used for the lab test. Example: LN - LOINC Code, L - Local Code. |
Test Code | The lab test code of the test done. It can be a LOINC number, a local code, or text. |
Test Description | The laboratory test description. |
Result Code System | The result code of the reported test name. It can be a SNOMED code or SNOMED ID, or text. |
Result Code | The result code of the reported test name. |
Result Description | The description of a reported observation. |
Disease Name | The name of the disease. |
LOINC Test Code | The LOINC test code associated with the lab test code. |
SNOMED Result Code | The SNOMED result code associated with the lab result code. |
Edit | Click this button to edit the LOINC/SNOMED entry. See Edit a LOINC/SNOMED Entry. |
Delete | Click this button to delete the entry. |
To add a new mapping table, first select ELR - CDC Reporting > LOINC-SNOMED Mappings from the menu, then click the New Mapping Table button on the LOINC/SNOMED Mappings page. The New Mapping Table pop-up window opens. Enter at least the required fields (in red text and marked with an asterisk) and click Add. To cancel without saving any changes, click Cancel.

There are two ways to add one or more LOINC/SNOMED entry to the application. The first is to add them manually and the second is to import a file containing LOINC/SNOMED information. For either method, go to the LOINC/SNOMED mappings page by selecting ELR - CDC Reporting > LOINC-SNOMED Mappings from the menu, then selecting a mapping name from the Select a Mapping to Edit drop-down list.
To manually add a new LOINC/SNOMED entry, first select ELR - CDC Reporting > LOINC-SNOMED Mappings from the menu, then select a mapping name from the Select a Mapping to Edit drop-down list, then click the New Entry button on the LOINC/SNOMED Mappings page. The Add LOINC/SNOMED Entry pop-up window opens. Enter at least the required fields (in red text and marked with an asterisk) and click Add.

Specimen Source | Select the origin of the specimen/sample from the drop-down list. Examples: Abscess, Amniotic fluid, Aspirate, Biopsy/Tissue, etc. |
Organism Name | Select the name of the organism from the drop-down list. |
Organism Species | Select the organism species from the drop-down list. The fundamental category of taxonomic classification, ranking below a genus or subgenus and consisting of related organisms capable of interbreeding. Example: For Herpes simplex, Herpes is the genus name and Herpes simplex describes a species (or category) of Herpes virus. |
Organism Serogroup | Select this option when an organism may have a serogroup designation. |
Organism Serotype | Select this option when an organism may have serotype designation. |
Disease Name* | Select the disease's name from the drop-down list. This field is required. |
To import a LOINC/SNOMED entry, first make sure the CSV file has the information in the correct field order and separated by commas. Click the Import button located on the top right of the LOINC/SNOMED mappings page. The Import pop-up window opens. Click Choose File, navigate to the CSV file, and select it. If the CSV file is not imported, an error message displays at the top of the page.
To edit a new LOINC/SNOMED entry, first select ELR - CDC Reporting > LOINC-SNOMED Mappings from the menu, then select a mapping name from the Select a Mapping to Edit drop-down list, then search for the entry and/or locate the entry in the list of LOINC/SNOMED mappings. Click the Edit button for the entry in the list. The Edit LOINC/Snomed Entry pop-up window opens with the details pre-populated in the fields. Make any necessary modifications and click Update when finished. To cancel without saving any changes, click Cancel.
