Authorized users can add, edit, delete, and export specimen source information from the Sentinel Specimen Source Dropdown page. To open the page, click the General Configuration > Specimen Source Management menu link.
The Sentinel Specimen Source Dropdown page lists the current specimen sources. Under the list of current specimen sources, the number of sources displayed on the page is listed (for example, Showing 1 to 25 of 154 entries) and on the right side of that line are previous and forward arrows; click the arrows as needed to display additional specimen sources.
To search for a specimen source within the list, enter a few characters of the specimen source name or code. The list narrows to display only the specimen sources that meet the search criteria.
To export the list of current specimen sources, click the Export button.
The columns and options on the Specimen Source Dropdown page are as follows:
Column/Option | Description |
Show ___ entries | Select from the drop-down list the number of entries to display on the page: All, 10, 25, 50 or 100. |
Search | Enter a few characters of the specimen source name or code number in the search field to narrow the list of sources. The list automatically filters based on what is entered in the field. |
Sentinel Dropdown Value | The specimen source name that appears in the drop-down lists throughout the application. |
Visible | Displays whether or not the specimen source is visible to users (Yes/No). |
Edit | Click this link to edit the specimen source information. See Edit a Specimen Source. |
Delete | Click this link to delete the specimen source to remove it from the application drop-down lists. See Delete a Specimen Source. |
To add a new specimen source to the application, click the General Configuration > Specimen Source Management menu link. On the Specimen Source Dropdown page that opens, click the Add button. The Add Sentinel Specimen Source Dropdown window opens. Enter the information and click Submit. Click Cancel to return to the page without saving any changes.
The available fields and options on the Add Sentinel Specimen Source Dropdown window are as follows. Required fields are red and have an asterisk.
Field | Description |
* Code | Enter a unique code for the specimen source, such as 3-4 letters describing the specimen. This field is required. |
* Sentinel Dropdown Value | Enter the specimen source name. This is what appears in the drop-down lists. This field is required. |
Visible | Select whether or not this specimen source should appear to users in drop-down lists (Yes/No). |
To edit a specimen source, first click the General Configuration > Specimen Source Management menu link, then search for the specimen source in the list. Click the Edit link for the specimen source in the list. The Edit Sentinel Specimen Source Dropdown window opens with that source's details pre-populated in the fields. Make any necessary modifications and click Submit when finished. To cancel without saving any changes, click Cancel.

To delete a specimen source, first click the General Configuration > Specimen Source Management menu link, then search for the specimen source in the list. Click the Delete link for the specimen source in the list. The specimen source is removed from drop-down lists in the application.
