Link an Outbreak Event with an Investigation

The following are the ways in which an investigation can be linked with an outbreak event:

Link from the Investigations Tab

To link an investigation with an outbreak that is associated with an outbreak event form, first click the Home > Investigations tab, then search for the case and/or locate it in the list, and click the Link link in the Outbreak Event ID column. The Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event pop-up window opens. Select the checkbox for the Outbreak Event ID that matches the investigation, and click Link Selected (which appears once a checkbox is selected), then select Yes or No to confirm. The case investigation list on the main Investigations tab page is updated with the outbreak event ID for that particular case. To cancel without selecting an outbreak event, click Cancel.  

The available fields, columns, options, and buttons on the Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event pop-up window are as follows:

Field/Column/Option/Button Description
Search Enter the first few numbers of the Outbreak Event ID number or birthdate, or the first few characters of another field, to narrow the listed results. The list automatically filters based on what is entered in the field.
(select) Select this option to link the outbreak event to the investigation.
Outbreak Event ID A unique, system generated number that is automatically assigned to the outbreak event.
Patient Name The name of the patient.
Date Of Birth The patient's birthdate.
Sex The patient's gender.
View Click this button to view or print the outbreak event form.
Create New If no matches were found, then click this button to create a new outbreak event. See Create a New Outbreak Event from the Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event Window.

 

Create a New Outbreak Event from the Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event Window

To create a new outbreak event from an investigation, click the Create New button on the Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event window. The Create Outbreak Event from Investigation pop-up window opens; then select Yes or No to confirm. The case investigation list on the main Investigations tab is updated with the newly created outbreak event ID for that particular case.

Link from the Investigations Case Reporting Tab

To link an investigation with an outbreak that is associated with an outbreak event form, click the Link to Outbreak Event button on the Case Reporting tab. The Linking Investigation with Outbreak Event pop-up window opens. Select the checkbox for the Outbreak Event ID that matches the investigation, click Link Selected (which appears once a checkbox is selected), then select Yes or No to confirm. To cancel without selecting an outbreak event, click Cancel. The Outbreak Event ID field on Case Reporting tab page is updated with the linked outbreak event ID. Click the Submit Changes button on the Case Reporting tab page to complete the Link action.

Click the View Form button in the Outbreak Event ID section of the Outbreak section to view the Outbreak Event Form under the Supp Forms tab page. If the summary form is associated with an outbreak, the Summary Form section appears in the Outbreak section. To view the summary form, click the View Form button in the Summary Form section.

If no matches were found for the outbreak event, click the Create New button on Linking Outbreak Event to Investigation pop-up window. The Create Outbreak Event from Investigation pop-up window opens, then select Yes or No to confirm. The Outbreak Event ID field on Case Reporting tab is updated with the To Be Created Upon Submit status. Click the Submit Changes button on the Case Reporting tab page to complete the create and link actions.

Link from the Investigation Supplemental Form Tab

To link an outbreak event form to an investigation that is assigned to an outbreak, select the Outbreak Form tab on the Supp Form tab. The Outbreak Form tab opens displaying In order to fill this form, you need to associate an Outbreak Event with this Investigation message. Select the checkbox for the Outbreak Event ID that matches the investigation, click Link Selected (which appears once a checkbox is selected), then select Yes or No to confirm. The Outbreak Form tab page is updated with the outbreak form, which can be edited. Click the X button to return to the main Investigations tab page.

If no matches were found for the outbreak event, click the Create New button. The Create Outbreak Event pop-up window opens. Select Yes or No to confirm. The Outbreak Form tab page is updated with the outbreak form, which you can edit.

Link from the Outbreak Events Tab

To link an investigation with an outbreak event, first click the Home > Outbreak Events tab, then search for an event and/or locate the event in the list and click the Link link in the Investigation ID column. The Linking Outbreak Event with Investigation pop-up window opens. Select the checkbox for the Investigation ID that matches the outbreak event, click Link Selected (which appears once a checkbox is selected), then select Yes or No to confirm. Click View to view or print the case report. To cancel without selecting an investigation, click Cancel. The outbreak event list on the main Outbreak Events tab page is updated with the Investigation ID for that particular case.

Outbreak Name The name of the outbreak.
View Click this button to view or print the case report.
Create New If no matches were found, then click this button to create a new investigation. See Create a New Condition for an Investigation from the Linking Outbreak Event with Investigation Window.

Create a New Condition for an Investigation from the Linking Outbreak Event with Investigation Window

To create a new condition for the investigation from the Linking Outbreak Event with Investigation window, click the Create New button, select the condition for investigation from the drop-down list, and click Create New. To cancel without saving any changes, click Cancel. Click the X button on the right hand corner to close the pop-up window and return to the Linking Outbreak Event with Investigation window. The outbreak event list on the main Outbreak Events tab page is updated with the newly created Investigation ID for that particular case.

Unlink an Investigation from an Outbreak Event

Authorized users can unlink an investigation from an outbreak event. The unlink action can be performed from the main Outbreak Events tab page.

To unlink an investigation from an outbreak event, first click the Home > Outbreak Events tab, then search for an event and/or locate the event in the list, and then click the Edit button. Click the Case Reporting tab, and click the X (Unlink) button in the Outbreak section on the Case Reporting tab page. Once you click the X button and select Yes to confirm, the Outbreak Event ID field displays To Be Unlinked Upon Submit. To complete the unlink action, click the Submit Changes button.

Click the View Form button in the Outbreak Event ID section of the Outbreak section to view the Outbreak Event Form under the Supplemental Forms tab page. If the summary form is associated with an outbreak, the Summary Form section appears in the Outbreak section. To view the summary form, click the View Form button in the Summary Form section. Click the X button to return to the main Investigations tab page.

Edit the Linked Outbreak Events with an Investigation

To edit the linked outbreak event with an investigation, first click the Home > Outbreak Events tab, then search for an event and/or locate the event in the list and click the Edit button. The Outbreak Form tab page opens. Make any necessary changes and click Submit Changes when finished. If you want to edit any other case information on any other tab pages, make the changes and submit. See View/Edit Case Details. Click the X button to return to the main Outbreak Events tab page.

NOTE: You cannot change the core data fields for an outbreak event which is linked with an investigation. The core data fields are highlighted in blue color and are read-only fields with tool-tip options.
