Users with the CDC Export permission can export cases to the CDC. NETSS (National Electronic Telecommunications System for Surveillance) is the CDC's computerized public health surveillance information system. NETSS is generally used by reporting jurisdictions that are transitioning to NEDSS, which is more robust. The NETSS Export feature allows users to export case notifications for use with the NETSS system.
To perform a NETSS export, click the ELR - CDC Reporting > NETSS Export menu link. The NETSS Export - Case Notifications Export page opens. To export the information, enter the report parameters and click Export. To perform a year-to-date reset, which resets all of the data for the year, click Year to Date Reset. To view the export history, click View Export History.
The available fields and options on the NETSS Export - Case Notification Export page are as follows:
Field/Option | Description |
MMWR Ending Week (ww-yyyy) * | Enter the ending week in the format of ww-yyyy (example: 42-2016). The previous week number and current year are the default. This field is required. |
Closeout date (for YTD reset only) | If performing a year-to-date reset, enter the closeout date. |
Report Options | To include the NETSS extract in the report, select this option. |
After clicking Export, the New NETSS Export section is displayed with the export summary.
The cases from the first week of the year up to the MMWR ending week that meet the below criteria are included in the NETSS extract:
Click the NETSS Export link to download the .dat file to the system and view the NETSS extract generated by the system. If the file is blank, no case was exported to the CDC.
Click the Confidential Report (Do Not send me to CDC!) link to export the list of cases as a CSV file.
It also displays the details of the following export parameters: start MMWR, end MMWR, and cutoff date (see Explanation of Cutoff Date).
The NETSS Export History section displays the NETSS export history. Under the list of results, the number of cases displayed on the page is listed (for example, Showing 1 to 10 of 13 entries) and on the right side of that line are previous and forward arrows; click the arrows as needed to display additional cases.
The available columns and options on the NETSS Export History section are as follows:

Show ___ entries | Select from the drop-down list the number of entries to display on the page: 10, 25, 50 or 100. |
