HL7 CDC Export

Users with the CDC Export permission can export cases to the CDC. The HL7 CDC export report displays a list of previous HL7 CDC exports, along with the export date and time, user name, and MMWR starting and ending weeks. Authorized users can export specific files for submission to either the CDC or the client. The file is exported using an HL7 format.

To run this report, select the ELR - CDC Reporting > HL7 CDC Export menu link. The HL7 CDC Export - Case Notifications Export page opens. To export the information, enter the report parameters and click Export. To perform a year-to-date reset, which resets all of the data for the year, click Year to Date Reset. To view the export history, click View Export History. To schedule an export, click Scheduler (see Scheduler).

The available fields and options on the HL7 CDC Export - Case Notifications Export page are as follows:

Field/Option Description
Export Type * Select the export type from the drop-down list. This field is required.
NOTE: The options available in the drop-down list depend on the mappings associated with Generic v2, Varicella, Arboviral v1.3, and Hepatitis v1.
MMWR Ending Week (ww-yyyy) * Enter the ending week in the format of ww-yyyy (example: 42-2016). The previous week number and current year are the default. This field is required.

After clicking Export, the New HL7 CDC Export section is displayed with the export summary.

New HL7 CDC Export Section

The New HL7 CDC Export section is displayed only when there are cases to be exported to the CDC.

The report displays the cases from first week of the year up to the MMWR ending week that meet the below criteria:

Click the HL7 CDC Export - Sending Success link to download the .txt file to the system and view the HL7 messages generated by the system.

Click the HL7 CDC Export (CSV) link to export the list of cases as a CSV file.

It also displays the following export parameters: start MMWR, end MMWR, and cutoff date (see Explanation of Cutoff Date).

HL7 CDC Export History Section

The HL7 CDC Export History section displays the HL7 CDC export history. Under the list of results, the number of cases displayed on the page is listed (for example, Showing 1 to 10 of 14 entries) and on the right side of that line are previous and forward arrows; click the arrows as needed to display additional cases.

The available columns and options in the HL7 CDC Export History section are as follows:

Column/Option Description
Show ___ entries Select from the drop-down list the number of entries to display on the page: 10, 25, 50 or 100.
Search Enter a few characters of the export user, MMWR starting week, or MMWR ending week in the Search field. The list automatically filters based on what is entered in the field.
Export Time The export date and time for the specific export.
Export User The name (last name, first name) of the user who performed the export.
MMWR Starting Week The MMWR starting week for the export.
MMWR Ending Week The MMWR ending week for the export.
Export File for CDC Click this link to download a CSV file for use with the CDC.
Export File for Client Click this link to download a CSV file to save locally.

Scheduler

To schedule an HL7 CDC export for a later time, click Scheduler. The Scheduler pop-up window opens. Select the parameters and click Schedule.

The options on the Scheduler pop-up window are as follows:

Option Description
Frequency Select one of the following frequencies for scheduling the export type from the drop-down list. The default is Manual.
  • Daily
  • Manual
  • Weekly
NOTE:
  • If Manual option is selected, the Time (HH:MM) and Day fields are disabled
  • If Daily option is selected, the Time (HH:MM) field is auto-populated according to the Config key value, though you can change the time, and the Day field is disabled
  • If Weekly option is selected, the Time (HH:MM) and Day fields are auto-populated according to the Config key values, though you can change both of the values
Time (HH:MM) Enter a time for the export in 24-hour format time.
Day Select a day for the scheduled export from the drop-down list.
